Flamingo tongue snail (Cyphoma gibbosum) - One of the top three images in The EMBO Journal Cover Contest 2011, this underwater photo was taken in Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles, during a dive of Dr. Heidi de Wit, an assistant professor in cell biology and neurobiology investigating the secretory trafficking in neuronal cells by electron microscopy, and Dr. J. Patrick van der Voorn, a neuropathologist specialized in childhood white matter disorders.
Both are working at the Neuroscience Campus Amsterdam of the VU University Medical Center, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. As a scientific couple they both study the brain and when not doing work in the lab, they enjoy scuba diving and taking underwater pictures.
